Overview
The Commercial Director will lead KoBold Metals Zambia’s commercial function, driving strategy and execution for high value projects, including the flagship Mingomba mine development. This role is responsible for overseeing procurement, contracting, supply chain, and logistics for projects with capital expenditure exceeding US$2 billion. Working closely with technical and financial teams, the Commercial Director ensures governance, transparency, and efficiency in all commercial activities while building strong partnerships with suppliers, government entities, and community stakeholders. The position requires a forward looking leader capable of shaping commercial systems that support world class mining operations.

Main Responsibilities
• Develop and implement a multi year commercial roadmap aligned with project construction and operational demands.
• Establish commercial policies, vendor management standards, and contract governance frameworks.
• Lead negotiations, tendering, and contract awards for EPC/EPCM, drilling, engineering, and strategic services.
• Oversee procurement strategies for long lead equipment and manage contractor performance frameworks.
• Ensure contracts include appropriate protections for scope, liabilities, guarantees, and change management.
• Conduct risk assessments covering market, schedule, FX, and geopolitical factors, integrating findings into project planning.
• Provide commercial input into construction planning, engineering studies, and vendor selection.
• Manage contract administration, including claims, variations, extensions, and dispute resolution.
• Drive competitive market engagement strategies to secure best value and mitigate supply risks.
• Oversee logistics and cross border movement of goods into Zambia and the DRC.
• Lead commercial reporting for project reviews, technical committees, and executive leadership.
• Support budget planning, cost control, forecasting, and commitments management with Finance.
• Recruit, mentor, and grow the Commercial team, providing leadership to procurement and supply chain personnel.
• Represent KoBold in commercial discussions with government, community partners, and strategic suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with local content requirements and build ethical, responsible commercial partnerships.
• Monitor supplier performance and financial health, implementing corrective actions where necessary.

Required Qualifications and Skills
• Minimum of 10 years’ senior commercial leadership experience in mining, oil & gas, EPCM, or large industrial projects.
• Proven track record managing multi billion dollar construction projects and high value contracts.
• Strong knowledge of construction contract structures and governance frameworks.
• Experience in supplier development initiatives across Africa, Asia, or Latin America.
• Demonstrated success in designing and implementing commercial systems, reporting, and risk management.
• Recognized qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Law, Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related fields; advanced degree preferred.
• FIDIC certification as a contract manager is an advantage.
• Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills with strong business judgment.
• Ethical leadership, commitment to transparency, and ability to build and lead multi disciplinary teams.
• Flexibility to operate in fast growth environments with evolving priorities and structures.
