Overview
The Chief Project Planner will lead project planning and scheduling efforts for KoBold Metals Zambia Limited, a fast growing mineral exploration company. This role is central to ensuring that large scale mining and exploration projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with strategic objectives. Working closely with technical and business teams, the Chief Project Planner provides analytical insights, risk assessments, and planning tools that drive data driven decision making and operational excellence.
Main Responsibilities
• Develop and manage integrated, resource loaded master schedules from concept through commissioning and close out.
• Establish governance models, coding structures, calendars, and quality checks to ensure schedule integrity across all workstreams.
• Conduct baseline development, critical path analysis, and schedule risk reviews, proposing mitigation and contingency plans where needed.
• Perform trend analysis, scenario modeling, and probabilistic risk assessments to provide early warning signals and actionable insights.
• Integrate schedules with cost control systems to support Earned Value Management (EVM) and reconcile performance variances.
• Generate rolling lookaheads, readiness checks, and recovery plans to support field execution and address KPI breaches.
• Implement resource and crew planning, ensuring alignment with operational realities and project milestones.
• Build data pipelines between scheduling tools and BI platforms to automate reporting and analytics.
• Coach project teams and junior planners, codifying best practices, reusable templates, and playbooks for the planning function.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams and external stakeholders to ensure project schedules align with organizational goals.
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
• 8–10 years’ experience in project planning for major capital projects, ideally in mining, oil & gas, infrastructure, or heavy industry.
• Expert proficiency in Primavera P6 and advanced scheduling methodologies.
• Strong knowledge of project management frameworks such as PMBOK or PRINCE2, with experience in earned value analysis.
• Proven track record in developing and managing EPC schedules for projects exceeding $500M.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
• Experience with planning software integrations (ERP, cost systems, BIM tools) is desirable.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
