Overview
The Head of Quality & Assurance is responsible for leading the quality management function at Dangote Cement Zambia Limited. This role ensures that raw materials, clinker, and cement products consistently meet established standards through rigorous testing, inspection, and process optimization. It requires a strategic leader who can embed ISO and OHSAS systems, drive continuous improvement, and foster collaboration across production, mining, and customer teams to uphold product excellence and operational integrity.
Main Responsibilities
• Oversee raw material testing, mix design optimization, and product inspection to guarantee consistent quality outcomes.
• Implement and monitor ISO, OHSAS, and other quality management systems to ensure compliance with internal policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.
• Conduct medium to long term process studies, analyzing trends and equipment performance to recommend optimization initiatives.
• Develop and execute the annual quality control plan, ensuring alignment with plant objectives.
• Lead, train, and mentor QA/QC staff, promoting adherence to quality procedures and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Ensure preventive maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to maintain accuracy and reliability.
• Collaborate with production and mining teams to align raw material composition and operational processes with quality expectations.
• Engage with customers and stakeholders on quality related matters, providing clear communication and solutions.
• Prepare and deliver periodic reports on QA/QC performance to senior management, highlighting risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
• Encourage teams to critically evaluate procedures and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Production Management, Pure Chemistry, or a related discipline; Master’s degree is an added advantage.
• Membership in a recognized professional body and registration as a practitioner/engineer.
• Certified Quality Assurance Practitioner with valid Silicosis certification.
• Minimum of 15 years’ progressive experience, ideally within the cement industry.
• Strong knowledge of cement manufacturing trends, regulations, and quality standards.
• Expertise in internal auditing, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
• Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP and data analysis tools.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with proven ability to manage diverse teams.
• High ethical standards, integrity, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
