Overview
The Payables Coordinator, Africa plays a key role in supporting The Nature Conservancy’s operations across multiple African offices. This position ensures financial processes run smoothly and in compliance with organizational policies, focusing on invoice approvals, expense reporting, and cash advance management. Reporting to the Operations Manager for the Africa Region, the role collaborates closely with operations, HR, and finance teams to maintain strong financial governance and service delivery. The position is based in one of TNC’s Africa offices (Angola, Gabon, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, or Zambia).
Main Responsibilities
• Review and approve invoices, expense reports, and cash advance requests in line with organizational policies.
• Monitor timely liquidation of cash advances and ensure compliance with financial procedures.
• Classify and generate reports on expense trends to support informed decision making.
• Supervise Operations Officers and provide effective support across the business unit.
• Build staff capacity to competently use financial systems for payments and reconciliations.
• Liaise with supervisors to ensure timely approval of official expenses.
• Contribute to operational excellence by maintaining compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in financial management.
• Be flexible to travel and work outside standard hours when required.
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, with at least four years of relevant experience.
• Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPAK, ACCA, or equivalent).
• Proven supervisory experience and ability to lead teams effectively.
• Strong background in using accounting and ERP systems, with excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
• Skilled in negotiation, financial reporting, and cross functional collaboration.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders including donors, boards, and staff.
• High integrity, trustworthiness, and commitment to compliance.
• Desired: Over seven years’ experience in finance within international NGOs, multi country operations exposure, supply chain/procurement knowledge, and multilingual or cross cultural experience.
