Overview
WorldFish is seeking a dedicated Scientist (Fish Feeds and Nutrition) to lead the FASA project in Zambia. This role is a key part of an interdisciplinary team, focusing on high-quality, applied fish nutrition research. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and executing laboratory and on-farm experiments, building partnerships, and contributing to a vision of transforming aquatic food systems to reduce hunger, malnutrition, and poverty.
Main Responsibilities
As the Scientist (Fish Feeds and Nutrition), you will be responsible for:
• Leading the FASA project in Zambia, with an emphasis on increasing the use of novel local ingredients in fish feeds.
• Designing and executing research by conducting trials to determine the nutritional requirements of local tilapia and African catfish strains and assessing the nutritional quality and digestibility of feeds.
• Building partnerships with key international and national research institutes, universities, and investors to scale out research results.
• Mentoring and developing BSc and MSc students, research assistants, and interns involved in the project.
• Disseminating knowledge by publishing scientific, technical, and outreach articles, and contributing to resource mobilization for future projects.
Required Qualifications and Skills
To be a successful candidate for this role, you must possess the following qualifications and skills:
• Education: A PhD in Aquaculture, Aquaculture Nutrition, or a related field of animal nutrition.
• Experience: A minimum of two years of research experience in aquaculture nutrition and feed research.
• Technical Skills: Proven track record of publications in your field of study. You must have the ability to work independently and manage complex research projects.
• Communication: Excellent written and spoken English proficiency, with strong technical and scientific writing skills.
• Professional Attributes: A proven ability to develop and maintain a professional network within Zambia's aquaculture and fish feeds research community. The ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams and a strong motivation for delivering high-quality science with tangible impact are essential.
• Personal Attributes: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills are highly desirable.
