Overview
Lumwana Mining Company is seeking a highly committed Project Mining Engineer – LEP to join the Project Department. This fixed-term contract role involves assisting with the design, planning, and oversight of large-scale open-pit mining operations for the Lumwana Expansion Project (LEP). The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented professional with a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence, ready to contribute to Barrick's legacy of sustainability and responsible mining.


Main Responsibilities
As the Project Mining Engineer - LEP, you will be responsible for:
Project Support & Optimization: Collaborating with production teams to implement project initiatives, optimizing mine operations to reduce costs, and assisting with the selection of mining equipment for the expansion.
Design and Planning: Assisting with the review of current and expansion mine designs, converting long-term plans into medium and short-range execution, and developing long-term infrastructure designs.
Data Analysis & Reporting: Conducting in-depth data analysis to identify opportunities for improvement, reconciling design assumptions with actual performance, and ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of all required reports.
Safety and Compliance: Upholding strict adherence to safe work practices, investigating incidents, and ensuring the team maintains a strong culture of Zero Harm.
Financial Oversight: Assisting in the preparation of business plans and budgets for various study works.


Required Qualifications and Skills
To be a successful candidate for this role, you must meet the following requirements:
Education: A Full Grade Twelve School Certificate and a Degree in Mine Engineering.
Experience: A minimum of 4 years of mining engineering experience, with a background in open-pit operations being a significant advantage.
Certifications: Must hold a valid Zambian Blasting License and a valid Driver’s License.
Technical Skills: Proven experience with mine design software and proficiency in the MS Office Suite.
Professional Affiliation: Must be a registered member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
