Overview
ChildFund is seeking a Project Director to lead a major, three-year, World Bank-funded initiative focused on Scaling Up and Integrating Adolescent Health and Nutrition Interventions. This role is a two-year, fixed-term position, with hiring contingent on final grant approval. The project aims to improve adolescent health outcomes across up to 12 countries by providing sub-grants and technical assistance to local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Youth-Led Organizations (YLOs). The Project Director will be based in either Zambia or Senegal and must have current legal residency and work authorization in one of these two countries.
Main Responsibilities
• Project Leadership: Guide ChildFund and its consortium partners to successfully achieve all project objectives.
• Team and Partner Management: Lead and mentor a multi-country team of ChildFund staff (approximately eight people in six countries). Oversee the selection and management of sub-grantees, and provide technical assistance to them and other project stakeholders.
• Stakeholder Relations: Serve as the primary representative for the project with the World Bank’s Global Financing Facility (WB/GFF) and other key stakeholders in each of the targeted countries.
• Planning and Reporting: Direct the planning, reporting, and resource management activities for the project, ensuring all deliverables and timelines are met in collaboration with WB/GFF and other partners.
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Education: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Health Sciences, International Development, or Management is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
• Experience:
o A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in international development or humanitarian programs funded by donors. Experience with World Bank-funded projects is a plus.
o At least 5 years in a leadership position (manager or higher). Candidates with 3 or more years as a Chief of Party or Project Director are preferred.
o Required experience in strengthening the capacity of local organizations.
• Competencies and Knowledge:
o Advanced professional proficiency in English is mandatory, and working proficiency in French is a plus.
o Expertise in leading diverse, multi-organizational teams across different countries.
o Strong knowledge of sub-granting to local organizations.
o Familiarity with policy engagement and advocacy for CSOs, with an understanding of integrating innovations into government policies.
o Specific knowledge of adolescent health and nutrition is required.
o Demonstrated skills in teamwork, communication, results orientation, decision-making, resilience, and digital literacy.
