Overview
The Metallurgical and Technical Superintendent will join the Process leadership team at Lumwana Mining Company. This senior role is responsible for monitoring and optimizing the metallurgical performance of the plant to ensure cost-effective and efficient production. The ideal candidate will be a strong, safety-focused leader who can provide technical guidance, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and manage a team to achieve set production targets and cost objectives.
Main Responsibilities
• Oversee and direct the activities of the Metallurgy team, providing technical support to operations and maintenance to achieve optimal metallurgical performance.
• Monitor daily plant performance, analyze operating results and costs against forecasts, and develop action plans to address any variances.
• Develop and implement optimization and cost-reduction strategies for consumables and identify new improvement opportunities through research and development.
• Provide ongoing training and mentorship to the metallurgical team to ensure competence, safety, and a results-oriented culture.
• Ensure all personnel comply with site Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements and promote a strong safety culture through visible leadership.
• Manage staff to ensure project objectives are met on time and on budget, and take corrective action for any substandard performance.
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Education and Certification: A Grade 12 School Certificate and a degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, or Chemical Engineering. Must be a member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) and hold a current Zambian Driver's license.
• Experience: A minimum of six years of significant experience in large copper concentrators with a strong background in mineral processing operations. At least three years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role is also required.
• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of process KPIs, recoveries, and cost optimization, with proven experience in managing both CAPEX and OPEX.
• Leadership and Communication: Demonstrated strong leadership in safety culture and behavioral safety. Excellent analytical, detail-oriented, and communication skills.
