Overview
First Quantum is seeking a skilled Artisan Machinist, Line Boreing to join its maintenance and rebuild team. The role is focused on the upkeep and repair of heavy plant equipment, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. This position requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to maintaining high workmanship standards in challenging operational environments.
Main Responsibilities
• Perform planned and corrective maintenance on plant equipment in line with OEM specifications and company standards.
• Operate and maintain machining, milling, and boring equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
• Troubleshoot breakdowns, carry out preventive maintenance, and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
• Manage workshop equipment and inventory, ensuring supplies are available and tools are well-maintained.
• Prepare accurate service, maintenance, and repair reports in a timely manner.
• Promote and uphold safe work practices within the rebuild workshop, maintaining compliance with all HSE requirements.
• Provide responsive technical support, including standby and overtime work when required.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying issues, proposing solutions, and ensuring high customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications & Skills
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in machining, line boring, or heavy equipment maintenance.
• Craft Certificate in Machining/Line Boreing and valid membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
• Full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 O’levels; all qualifications must be certified by ZAQA.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Strong technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to work in high-temperature, dusty, and noisy environments.
• Proficiency in workshop tools, equipment handling, and basic PC literacy.
• Personal attributes: safety-conscious, quality-driven, a strong team player, adaptable, and proactive in problem-solving.
