Overview
ChildFund Zambia is seeking a dedicated Driver/Mechanic to support safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for its operations in Lusaka. Reporting to the HR and Administration Specialist, this position ensures vehicles are well-maintained, compliant with all regulations, and operated in line with ChildFund’s safeguarding and organizational policies. The role also contributes to fleet administration, supports program activities, and assists with administrative errands as needed. This is a full-time fixed-term contract for two years, based on-site in Lusaka.
Main Responsibilities
• Safely operate organizational vehicles in full compliance with Zambian traffic laws and internal driving standards.
• Conduct daily pre- and post-trip checks, maintain vehicle cleanliness, and report mechanical issues promptly.
• Oversee vehicle service schedules, coordinate repairs, and monitor fuel consumption, ensuring accurate reconciliations.
• Keep vehicle documentation up to date, including road tax, insurance, and service records.
• Maintain accurate logbooks and complete all required fleet documentation and reporting.
• Uphold ChildFund’s Child Safeguarding Policy, demonstrating vigilance in identifying and reporting potential risks.
• Provide additional support with office errands and administrative tasks when required.
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Minimum of a Grade 12 school certificate; certification in Mechanics is an added advantage.
• Valid Zambian driver’s license held for at least 4 years.
• At least 2 years’ experience as a driver with an NGO or 3–4 years in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Fluent in English and local language(s), with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to work independently under pressure.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, professionalism, and responsible resource management.
