Overview
The Senior UG Mine Engineer is a key leadership role responsible for the mine design and engineering efforts for KoBold's Mingomba project in Zambia. This position will lead pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, and help to design and execute all mining engineering programs. This is a highly collaborative role, working with a team of geoscientists, data scientists, and engineers to apply AI and data-driven models to optimize mine design, maximize project value, and enhance safety and feasibility.


Main Responsibilities
• Lead strategic mine design, sequencing, and scheduling using software like Deswik.
• Conduct a full range of mine engineering functions, including detailed design, trade-off studies, cost estimation, and technical document preparation.
• Apply project management standards to oversee all aspects of mining projects.
• Serve as a technical resource, providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to identify and implement value engineering opportunities, quantify uncertainties, and support physics-based and data-driven models.
• Support all aspects of surface and underground facilities engineering.


Required Qualifications and Skills
Education and Certification: A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline is required, along with an Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) Certification.
Experience: A minimum of seven years of relevant post-qualification experience in underground mine planning, design, and scheduling. Experience working with multiple consultants in the mining industry is also essential.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with mine planning, design, and scheduling software such as Deswik, MineScape, or Vulcan. Strong organizational, analytical, and strategic planning skills are necessary.
Soft Skills: Excellent technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills to effectively interact with both engineering and non-engineering audiences. Must have strong self-leadership and the ability to work independently while mentoring junior staff.
Workplace Requirements: A proven track record of upholding workplace safety. Must be a Zambian national.
