Technical Buyer (x 1)

Reports to: Lead Supply Chain Strategist

Job Purpose:

To ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies in accordance with technical specifications and inventory requirements. The Technical Buyer supports operational efficiency by managing supplier relationships, purchase orders, and data accuracy within the ERP system (Dynamics 365 Business Central).

Key Result Areas & Accountabilities

• Comply with the Procurement Procedure and Company policies and government statutory requirements to ensure transparency in materials and services acquisition
• Collaborate with internal departments (eg, Production, Engineering, Finance) to ensure procurement needs are clearly understood and met.
• Manage end-to-end procurement processes (RFQs,Purchase orders)
• Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials/services to prevent production delays or downtime of fixed or mobile plant
• Purchase materials, equipment, and/or supplies aligned with material requirements and specifications to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Ensure timely material deliveries to support production and project timelines.
• Obtain quotations from suppliers and negotiate best value pricing while maintaining required quality and service standards.
• Raise purchase orders in accordance with approved purchase requisitions and internal processes.
• Provide support in resolving price discrepancies and invoice queries within the Purchasing Department.
• Carry out general administrative duties necessary for the efficient operation of the purchasing function.
• Effectively manage a portfolio of suppliers to ensure timely, cost-effective, and specification- compliant delivery of materials and services, while supporting operational continuity and quality standards.
• Liaise closely with vendors during the procurement process to verify that supplied materials conform to required specifications and quality standards
• Investigate instances of material non-conformance reported by user departments and coordinate with vendors to determine root causes to avoid recurrence.
• Comply with the company Occupational Health, and Safety policies, procedures, related legislation and regulations.
• Contribute to a safe work environment by applying safe work practices and exercising a duty of care for self and others.
• Ensure ergonomic requirements and standards are maintained in the work area.
• Report hazards, incidents and unsafe work practices promptly

Professional Qualifications and Experience

• Advanced Diploma/Degree in Purchase and Supply/(CIPS) Level – 6
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a technical or industrial procurement environment.
• Familiarity with ERP systems; experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central is an advantage.
• Basic understanding of technical materials or engineering components is an advantage.
• Good computer skills
• Paid up member of ZIPS
• Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZQA) certificate of verification and evaluation of qualification will be required before the job offer

Desirable Skills, Knowledge & Characteristics

• Excellent analytical and evaluation skills
• Demonstrated competencies in doing it right the first time, customer service, teamwork, and personal effectiveness
• Experience in a similar role, preferable in the mining industry
• Good command of both oral and written communication
• Possession of good leadership skills
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
• Knowledge of ERP software
• Excellent knowledge of commercial regulations and INCOTERMS
