Occupational Health and Safety Institute (OHSI) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security established under the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 36 of 2010, has its main Offices situated in Kitwe with two branch offices in Solwezi and Lusaka. In addition to the 3 centres, the Institute also offers occupational health and safety (OHS) services to all the sectors throughout the country on outreach basis. The Institute is looking for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following positions;
BIOSTATISTICIAN [1 POSITION]
JOB OBJECTIVE
Responsible for analyzing and interpreting data using statistical methods to provide insights that help improve organizational processes, decision-making, overall performance and well-being of employees. This role combines analytical expertise, processes and statistics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Address discrepancies between expected and actual data to maintain organizational integrity.
• Analyzing data and interpreting the results of employees using statistical methods to inform OHS policies and interventions.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and policies by monitoring changes in data or practices.
• Develop training materials for employees on data analysis and decision-making and participate in OHS awareness programmes
• Work with Heads of Departments and Regional Managers to update records and ensure all processes are aligned with organizational goals
• Developing research designs for OHS studies and participate in data collection and analysis
• Collaborate with IT to maintain the integrity of OHS data
• Participate in conduction of epidemiological
• investigations to identify the causes and contributing factors of occupational injuries and diseases
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Grade 12 school certificate
• Bachelor’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or related field.
• Computer literate with knowledge of statistical- analytical software like Epe-Info, STATA, SPSS
• Minimum Relevant Pre-Jab Experience: 4 years working experience in the similar field
• Registered Member of the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ)
• Valid Practicing License
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis knowledge of database management and data visualization tools
• Collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn from others
• Collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn from others
• Ability to communicate complex data insights clearly to non-expert stakeholders
• Qualification in OHS will be an added advantage
