Job description:

Purpose

The Maintenance Specialist will ensure all maintenance activities within an Operation area/defined set of physical assets are executed safely and cost effectively by competent maintenance personnel in accordance with work schedules, relevant standards and operating procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Assist the Area Superintendent and Maintenance coordinator to effectively plan for all maintenance works in the workshop and pit area, ensuring all parts and materials needed are available on time.
• Assist the Coordinator in Supervising and providing leadership to the crew Foremen
• Champion quality and provide visible leadership ‘on-the-floor’ in FQM operations
• Recognize and celebrate achievements and success in the team; provide candid feedback, engage at all levels and lead with a ‘People First’ mindset.
• Searches and sorts through the CMMS backlog to ensure all identified backlog work is included in the scheduled planned work.
• Work hand in hand with the Crew Foremen to mobilize and supervise contractors, suppliers and vendors to ensure safe provision of maintenance services in line with service agreements, plans, and applicable standards.
• Identifies any potential consumable materials issues and works with supply chain to ensure everything required is on site prior to maintenance work.
• Assist the Coordinator to take responsibility for the maintenance execution team (incl. people, budget, and planning) and ensure it meets or exceed targets/ KPIs related to safety, quality, quantity, and timing.
• Manage the work center capacity and control the weekly work schedule to ensure timely and accurate delivery against work management plans, as well as for any unplanned (breakdown) work requirements.
• Liaise with coordinator and the Superintendent to ensure Maintenance schedules and plans are aligned with Production requirements, standards, and specifications.
• Work with the foremen and technical advisors for constant improvement of machine’s availability.
• Closely collaborate with other Maintenance specialists to ensure the crews apply consistent adherence to safety, mine regulations, company policy and effective work practices at all times.
• Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis on all premature failures. Liaise with other teams in root cause troubleshooting and incident investigations, including equipment failures and defects for low impact planned and unplanned events.
• Participate in the improvement of engineering standards, specifications and procedures associated with replacement, refurbishment and augmentation of equipment.
• Assist the section in developing SOP’s and QA/QC Documents.
• Assist the Coordinator and the superintendent to oversee cost effectiveness in budgeting, strategize component tracking and foster initiative skill development at subordinate levels.
• Work hand in hand with the Coordinator and Foreman to set up workshop tooling best practices.
• Perform any other duties as required by Management.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

• Proven expertise in change management, maintenance improvement, and quality control and assurance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to drive decisions.
• Strong understanding of complex electrical information, maintenance improvements and strategic control measures.
• Familiarity with safety protocols and mine regulations.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Project management skills to lead maintenance improvement works/projects.
• Good cognitive and analytical skills for identifying maintenance shortfalls, bottlenecks and implementing maintenance improvements.
• Strong background understanding of Mining Mobile fleet equipment
• Maintenance safety management knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Full Grade 12 certificate
• Minimum Craft certificate in any Electrical field or equivalent.
• Diploma in Electrical engineering will be an added advantage
• Holder of current Valid ERB membership
• Ability to hold a MR209(1b)
• Valid Driving License mandatory.

EXPERIENCE

• A minimum of 4-7 years’ relevant experience in a related role
• Must have vast experience working in an environment with a huge fleet of Heavy Equipment
• Demonstrable Experience leading Teams of Artisans and Technicians in maintenance works.
• Ability to understand and interpret troubleshooting software.
• Experience in Condition based Maintenance.
• Knowledge of CMMS systems in particular Pronto
